It's finally senior year, your time to shine and take full advantage of your last year in high school! One of the ways to do that is get the PERFECT senior pictures, but what on earth are you supposed to wear? Styling for your session can seem intimidating, but it isn't actually as complicated as you think! I'm here to help and give you all the Do's and Don'ts on what to do when it's time for your pictures!
Casual Look
For the girls:
- Jeans and a light colored blouse with white tennis shoes or neutral boots.
- Flowy sundress with or without a jean jacket and nice sandals or wedges.
- For a downtown/urban style, Jean/leather jacket over light colored blouse and jeans with tennis shoes.
For the boys:
- Jeans and t-shirt with open buttoned shirt on top and tennis shoes.
- Polo shirt with khakis or chinos and boat shoes.
- Long sleeve shirt with jeans and tennis shoes.
Formal Look
For the girls:
- Black pants with slim fit colored crew neck sweater and heels
- Nice dress with heels
- Romper with wedges or heels
For the boys:
- Crew neck sweater with dark pants and dressy shoes.
- Black pants with colored button up and dressy shoes.
- Fitted button up with rolled sleeves and khakis.
Hobbies/Interests
This is universal for boys and girls! I always recommend incorporating your hobbies to your pictures, they are a huge part of you and are what make you unique! For these you would just wear whatever you wear for your hobby, whether it's a uniform, outfit that you wear when doing certain activities like painting, or you are into fashion/makeup and want to showcase that. Just wear what makes sense for these hobbies so we can really capture it in that set!
Some Final Tips
DO:
- Pick outfits that you know and love so you're comfortable and the pictures reflect YOU. There is no need to go buy a whole new wardrobe, you should use what you already love to wear!
- Play with layers. Jackets, scarves, and jewelry can go a long way and bring some variety!
- Pay attention to the shoes!! They show up often with poses and can make a difference if they don't fit the rest of your look.
- Make sure your undergarments won't be showing through your clothes and they are comfortable so you don't have to constantly readjust. That includes you boys, make sure your pants stay up when sitting/standing!
- Think of what you would wear on your first day of school or to a movie date. The outfit you choose for that is probably the perfect choice for your senior pictures too because it is a reflection of you at your best!
DONT:
- Wear anything that just isn't comfortable or makes you feel self conscious. You want to feel confident and comfy for your senior pictures so it shows in the photos!
- Wear spaghetti straps or strapless tops. They look cute in person but don't always photograph well with typical poses.
- Wear branded clothes. These are about you not other companies!
- Wear neon colors or bright red. If it is a color on a highlighter it probably won't come out well with other colors in the scenery.
Remember to have fun! You only get one chance for senior pictures so you should enjoy every moment and take the time to let your personality shine through so you can look back at the years from now and have no regrets. This is all about you, so embrace that and have a great senior year!
